Go Hawai'ian shirts, Locus Awards June 27

Make a weekend out of the Locus Awards starting with the Clarion West party, 7:30 p.m., Fri., June 26 at the Lake Union Courtyard Marriott, 925 Westlake Ave., Seattle. Join author John Kessel and other special guests (to be announced).

On
Sat., June 27 panels featuring science fiction authors begin at 11 a.m. with the Locus Awards Banquet and Ceremony at 1 p.m. followed by an autograph session (with books available for purchase from University Book Store) all at the Marriott.

A word of warning, M.C.
Connie Willis hosts and she's serious about the dress code: Hawai'ian shirts. Wear it loud and proud. Even devotees of all black attire may be assimilated for the ceremony. Last year, this included William Gibson. As on the islands, the shirts are de rigeur with the thrift store variety strongly encouraged.

Later, if you want to get swanky, at 8 p.m. head over to the
Science Fiction Museum for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The 2009 inductees are author Connie Willis, artists Michael Whelan and Frank R. Paul, and editor and publisher Edward L. Ferman.

Tickets for the Locus Awards are $35. They include the Clarion West party, all the Locus Awards events, and a day-pass for the Science Fiction Museum.

Tickets for the
Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be available for purchase separately from the Science Fiction Museum. They're not on sale yet.
